The road to Ft. Pickens was washed out by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The road was quickly rebuilt but was washed out again in 2005 by Hurricane Dennis. The Hurricanes not only washed out the road but they also washed out Pensacola's premiere surf spot...'The Point." This footage is from the day the road finally reopened on May 22, 2009...as you will see, the surf break is just beginning to make a comeback. This video was shot on 'Opening Day.' The waves on the beach breaks were totaly blown out but there were some small, better shaped waves rolling in here so Yancy opted to do a Stand Up Paddle surf. We were only able to film two waves before a squall moved in and made it impossible to shoot any longer.

The sad news is...that night the surf got bigger and water washed over the road and the road was once again closed. Luckily, no major damage was done and the road has since reopened.
The question remains...What's going to happen on the next big swell????
